Violent Femmes will take fans back in time when the alt rockers perform their first two albums cover-to-cover during a May 16 concert at Old National Centre in Indianapolis.

The Milwaukee, Wisconsin-born band (“Kiss Off,” “Gone Daddy Gone”) starts the show with their second album, “Hallowed Ground,” which has its 40th anniversary this year, in its entirety.

The show continues with songs from the debut “Violent Femmes;” and ends with a few fan and band favorites.

Why start the show with the sophomore album?

It tracks with the development of the music.

The songs for 1984’s “Hallowed Ground” actually were written long before the 1983 release of the band’s debut album, but the team wanted to go with more upbeat tracks for its first release.

Lead vocalist and guitarist Gordon Gano wrote the songs for both albums while he was still in high school.

The Indianapolis concert is part of a limited run of shows starting May 1 in San Francisco, California, and ending May 18 in Detroit, Michigan.

Tickets are available at vfemmes.com.
