JASPER COUNTY, Ind — A semi driver was shot while driving on Interstate 65 in northern Indiana Thursday.

State police were called to the 224-mile marker on a report of a shooting around 4:45 p.m., which is six miles south of the Roselawn/Demotte exit to SR 10 in Jasper County.

Early investigation shows the driver was traveling south on I-65 when he was shot. Troopers who responded to the scene administered first aid on what were described as a "life-threatening" injury until paramedics arrived.

The semi driver was flown by helicopter to an Indianapolis hospital for treatment. His condition is not known at this time.

The incident caused both directions of the interstate to be closed for several hours to allow the helicopter to land at the scene, then for detectives to conduct their investigation, which is ongoing.
