A Marion County judge has denied a court bid by Lincoln Party secretary of state candidate Greg Ballard to force the Indiana Election Commission to hold a meeting regarding campaign finance complaints against Republican candidate Max Engling and Democrat Beau Bayh ahead of Election Day on Nov. 3. The decision was made following a lawsuit filed by Ballard, who asked the judge to order a meeting about the commission's response to campaign misconduct allegations. The state attorney general's office argued that state law does not set a time frame for the commission to review campaign finance complaint and that Ballard was attempting to influence voters before Election Day. The most prominent complaint alleges that Engling’s campaign improperly accepted $60,000 from Hoosier Leadership for America, a dark money political group associated with Republican U.S. Sen. Jim Banks.
