Indiana Governor Mike Braun has announced the launch of a new statewide initiative, the Indiana Community Impact Accelerator, aimed at strengthening communities, advancing development projects and creating new jobs. The three-year program will initially serve three communities, including Huntington County, the city of Elkhart and the La Porte County Housing Alliance. Over 30 communities are expected to participate over the next three years, with additional applications opening in early 2027. The initiative will address challenges such as limited staffing, fragmented development efforts and insufficient funding. A major component of the initiative is a new fellowship program that places nine mid-career professionals in communities across the state for two-year assignments, earning between $60,000 and $75,000 annually while receiving training and professional development opportunities. The Accelerator is partially funded by a 2024 grant from Lilly Endowment Inc.
