INDOT received more than 100 applications… The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) has awarded funding to 39 sites in an effort to expand electric vehicle charging capacity. The funding is part of the “Charging the Crossroads” program, which includes over 100 applications and funds from the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) program. All sites are located along Indiana’s Alternative Fuel Corridors and must be installed every 50 miles along the corridor within one mile of an intersection or interchange to meet federal requirements. The NEVI program was created in 2021 to expand EV charging capacity across the country and reduce "range anxiety" associated with electric vehicles. The program includes nearly $5 billion in federal funding, with Indiana expected to receive about $100 million.

INDIANAPOLIS – The Indiana Department of Transportation awarded funding to dozens of sites as the state works to expand electric vehicle charging capacity.
INDOT received more than 100 applications for EV charger funding as part of the “Charging the Crossroads” program. It selected 39 sites to receive money from the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) program.
All sites are located along Indiana’s Alternative Fuel Corridors. Charging stations must be installed every 50 miles along the corridor and located within one mile of an intersection or interchange to meet federal requirements.
The awarded sites are mostly located near major interstates spanning Indiana, including I-64, I-65, I-69, I-70, I-74, I-80 and I-465. You can find a map of the locations here.
They include, among other things, travel centers, gas stations, convenience stores and hotels. INDOT expects installation to begin in 2025.
The NEVI program was created in 2021 to expand EV charging capacity across the country and reduce “range anxiety” often associated with electric vehicles. It ultimately aims to encourage more drivers to adopt EVs.
The program includes nearly $5 billion in federal funding; Indiana is expected to receive about $100 million. NEVI will fund up to 80% of the cost of installing of EV charging stations and five years of operation and maintenance.
INDOT expects to open applications for a second round of funding later this year.
