Durham’s First Fringe Festival Platforms Local Artists Across Town
The 10-day festival, a part of the Carolina Theatre's year of centennial celebrations, kicks off October 30. Durham's first Fringe Festival will take place on October 30, featuring 50 performing artists across 25 venues. The festival is part of the Carolina Theatre's year of celebrations, marking 100 years since the venue opened in 1926. The organizers, Randy McKay, and Myra Weise, both dancers and festival organizer, took years to gather community input on the centennial plans. The 10-day festival, which takes its name from and is loosely modeled after the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, will offer an opportunity for local artists to present their work. The funding for all 10 days of performances comes from a capital campaign.
