Hilton, InterContinental: Here are the hotel projects coming to Indianapolis

Signia by Hilton is opening a 40-story, 800-room hotel by the Indiana Convention Center in 2026. Several hotels are currently under construction in Indianapolis, some of which have been criticized for borrowing over half a billion dollars to finance a hotel in a saturated market. The upscale 40-story and 800-room hotel, Signia by Hilton, is one of several projects being supported by the city of Indianapolis. The hotel is expected to host 82% of the top 250 trade shows in the country and will be managed by Hilton while the city will own the property. Other projects include the InterContinental Hotel at 17 W. Market Street, 21C museum hotels at 202 Alabama Street, Aloft Hotel at 136 E. Market St., and Kimpton Hotel at the Oddfellows building on N. Pennsylvania Street.

Signia by Hilton, an upscale 40-story and 800-room hotel, is one of several hotels under construction across Indianapolis. The city-backed projects have garnered some criticism for borrowing more than half a billion to finance a hotel in what some see as a saturated market. But at a press event Thursday tourism and city officials reiterated support for the project.

"This new space will be fit to host 82% of the top 250 trade shows in the country," Mayor Joe Hogsett said.

Chris Gahl, a Visit Indy executive, attributes the desire for the new Signia to the success of several lucrative and prominent deals for convention business, including renewals with GenCon, FFA and FDIC International.

What is the Hilton Signia brand?

Hilton has some 24 different brands of hotels across the world, including the Signia brand, catering to different customers.

Signia by Hilton hotels are in several major cities, including Atlanta, San Jose and Orlando.

While Hilton will manage the hotel, the city will own the property.

Indianapolis has a blend of major brands and boutique hotels. Here's some of the other projects underway.

• None The InterContinental Hotel at 17 W. Market Street is expected to open this fall. The hotel will have restaurants and a rooftop bar with about 170 rooms.

• None 21C museum hotels at 202 Alabama Street is expected to open 2028. The hotel is part of a renovation project that also includes a public art gallery and apartment units.

• None Aloft Hotel at 136 E. Market Street is expected to open later this year. The hotel will have 128 rooms, a bar and a cafe.

• None Kimpton Hotel at the Oddfellows building on N. Pennsylvania Street will be open late 2025. The hotel will have 130 rooms and a rooftop bar.
