Andrea Eguia, 13, Killed in Indianapolis Apartment Shooting
A mother fell asleep after work. Hours later, her 13-year-old daughter was shot dead nearby. Indianapolis is mourning Andrea Eguia. Andrea Pennlynn Eguia, a 13-year-old girl, was found fatally wounded at the Georgetown Apartments in Indianapolis early Saturday morning. Her mother, Molly Wingard, said she had gone to sleep around 3 a.m. after work and was unaware that she had left the house with her cousin. The family had moved from Fort Wayne to Indianapolis less than a year prior to the shooting, a move they said was in part to protect their son from the streets. Public police reports have documented multiple prior trips to the Georgetown Apartment, including a shots-fired call less than one month before Andrea was killed. Despite the complex's troubled history, Andrea's family placed responsibility for the shooting on the person responsible, not the place where it happened.
