Holcomb issues executive order to use emergency resources for eclipse tourism

The state of Indiana is expected to be fully prepared for the once-in-a-lifetime eclipse on April 8. Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb has signed an executive order declaring a statewide disaster emergency to use state resources from other states that are part of the Emergency Management Assistance Compact (EMAC), or EMAC. The order is intended to address the anticipated needs of Indiana’s emergency response, transportation, communication, and critical infrastructure systems due to the projected influx of tourists. The state of emergency will be in place through April 9. Once a governor issues an order, EMAC members typically share equipment and communications systems to support state resources to ensure the safety and welfare of residents if an emergency event occurs due to tourism.
