NorthShore Health Centers, a nonprofit healthcare provider in Northwest Indiana, has announced a cybersecurity incident that exposed some of its patients' personal and protected health information. The incident was first detected on August 10, 2026 and an investigation was launched into suspicious network activity. The investigation determined that an (unnamed) unauthorized third party had access to parts of the IT environment between August 10 and August 11, 20 26 and potentially accessed or obtained files containing patient information. It is likely that names, Social Security numbers, medical treatments and conditions, and health insurance information were involved. A ransomware group named Insomnia claimed responsibility for the incident, adding NorthShore to its dark web data leak site and threatening to publish the stolen data if a ransom was not paid. Patients should consider placing a fraud alert and credit freeze with one of the three major credit reporting agencies and monitoring their accounts for signs of data misuse.
