Federal grand jury indicts famed composer on child porn charges
INDIANAPOLIS (TCN) -- A federal grand jury has indicted a 56-year-old composer and former fourth grade math teacher on child pornography charges.In August 2025, Julian Wachner was arrested on preliminary child exploitation and child pornography charges and booked into jail, according to WXIN.In September, Wachner pleaded guilty to five counts of possession of child sexual abuse material (CSAM) and one count of cocaine possession in connection with the case, according to WXIN. A judge sentenced Wachner to six years of probation. As part of the plea agreement, Wachner was required to register as a sex offender.WRTV reports that the suspended sentence was controversial, with various leaders in the community calling to remove Marion County Judge Jeffrey Marchal.On Oct. 21, Wachner was indicted in federal court on charges of receiving and possessing child pornography, WXIN reports. According to court documents obtained by the outlet, Wachner allegedly used cryptocurrency to purchase CSAM on the dark web and allegedly admitted to making hundreds of purchases in his interview with police.In his initial interview with officers, Wagner allegedly claimed the material he possessed contained footage of children between the ages of 1 and 16, but he preferred material of children between 6 and 13, WTHR reports. Police also allegedly found cocaine in his home, including next to his laptop.According to WXIN, Wachner worked as a fourth grade math teacher at a charter school at the time of his arrest in 2025. He is also a famed composer who has recorded multiple albums, and WTHR reports he has been nominated for several Grammys.
