Brandi Davis-Handy: Indiana can power growth while protecting customers
Growth for us is about more than megawatts. It is about creating value for communities while protecting the customers who already depend on us every day. AES Indiana, an Indiana utility, has stated that it can manage growth while protecting customers and communities. The announcement comes as part of a historic period of energy transition and economic growth, with the company completing a seven-year effort to modernize and strengthen central Indiana’s electric grid. The company's approach to load growth must be cost-effective, not adversely affecting existing customers, and support reliability of the electric system. The Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission recently approved AES Indiana‘s plan to serve the Google data center project in Morgan County, which is expected to generate more than $770 million in customer savings over the term of the contract while supporting economic growth in central Indiana. The agreement was designed with existing customers in mind and covers 100% of the energy, generation, transmission and infrastructure costs required to serve Google's facilities.
